Hooker H Pipe

Hooker Headers is a division of the Holley company, which has been around for over a century. They have their carburetors mounted on every NASCAR and NHRA Top Fuel vehicle. Part of the nature of a V-8 engine is that at one point in the complete cycle, two cylinders on the same side will be moving in conjunction. That is not a problem from the standpoint of the block or crankshaft, but from the standpoint of the exhaust system, it can create a traffic jam. When two exhaust bursts try to move into the same space in the exhaust system, it creates turbulence and a backup in pressure. This pressure robs the engine of power. Hooker H pipes are designed to alleviate this problem. A well designed header, such as Hooker's, will space the conflicting bursts out so that they are spaced out as they reach the collector. However, as they move into the rest of the exhaust system, there is a conflict. Hooker H pipes have a cross pipe leading from one side of the exhaust to the other. Because the double pulse is on one side of the exhaust, the other side is empty. The Hooker H pipe permits the gasses to travel between the exhaust sides, preventing that turbulence and improving your performance.
